2011-12 Bulldogs have eight returners to 21-man squad

The Holmes Community College Bulldog baseball team has begun preparation for the 2012 spring schedule with eight returners on the 21-man squad, which participated in both the MACJC State Tournament last season.

Four Bulldog pitchers --- Rafiel Johnson of Grenada, Taylor Burrell of Sallis, Channing Sanders of Ackerman and Chris Hutchinson --- return to the squad this season after being key members of the rotation last season for the Bulldogs. Outfielders Trennis Grant of Canton and Tyji Hawkins of Columbus join infielder Jocobby Robinson of Meridian and Brandon Villarreal of Labelle, Fla., as returners to the team and all saw a tremendous amount of playing last season.

Newcomers include: Steven Blanchard, pitcher/infielder, Lafayette, La.; Brandon Woodland, infielder, Hattiesburg; Denzel Goolsby, outfielder, Oxford; Derek Bynum, utility, Stringer; Blake Bowman, infielder/pitcher, Yazoo City; Darius Knight, outfielder, Pearl; Shawn Stricklin, catcher/outfielder, Ackerman; Jordan Taylor, pitcher/utility, McComb; Jeffrey Davis, pitcher/utility, Madison; Deanzel Johnson, infielder, Jackson; J.P. Zeigler, pitcher, Benton; Danny Alford, catcher, Pearl; and  Darryl Watkins, pitcher/outfielder, Atlanta. Woodland, Goolsby and Bowman are sophomores.
