Bulldogs open season on Feb. 4 in Selma, Ala.

The Holmes Community College Bulldog baseball team has eight returners to a team that finished .500 on the season. This year's team will mix these returners with some transfers and freshmen to get back to postseason play.

The Bulldogs, who went 22-22 overall and 13-15 in the MACJC, return: Brodie Threet, catcher, Kosciusko; Chase Allen, pitcher, Florence; Dylan Creel, infielder, Clinton; Justin Hutton, pitcher, Byram; Peyton Sullivan, pitcher, Mize; Scott Shearer, pitcher, Independence; Sloan Dieter, pitcher/infielder; Lake Charles, La.; and Tyrance Carr, infielder, Clinton. Transfers include: Chris Prentiss, pitcher, Vicksburg, Co-Lin; Josh Tucker, outfielder, Clinton, East Central; Kyle Singleton, infielder, Brandon, Hinds; Landry Newsom, pitcher/outfielder, Farmerville, La., Hinds; and Zach Boone, catcher, Flowood, East Miss. All are sophomores except for Tucker and Singleton.

Creel is the returning leading hitter by average for the Bulldogs with a .315 average. He had 17 hits with six RBI. Dieter batted .294 with 25 hits including five doubles and seven homeruns. Threet batted .271 with 13 hits including three doubles, one homerun and 15 RBI while Carr batted .239 with 11 hits including one double, one triple and six RBI.

Hutton finished the season with a 0.00 ERA in nine games. Dieter had a 3.14 ERA in 43 innings with 35 strikeouts while Shearer had a 4.98 ERA in 68 2/3 innings with 39 strikeouts, Allen had a 6.26 ERA in 23 innings with 22 strikeouts and Peyton Sullivan had a 7.24 in 13 2/3 innings with 19 strikeouts.

Newcomers are: Brandon Williams, outfielder, Clinton; Caleb Collier, outfielder, Canton; Chandler Powell, infielder, Purvis; J.D. Hayes, outfielder, Magee; Jeb Malley, outfielder, Kiln; Jeff Crenshaw, pitcher, Slidell, La.; Keelyn Johnson, catcher/infielder, Pineville, La.; Logan Bell, infielder/pitcher, Kosciusko; Nick Lawrence, pitcher, Pearl; Sage Mullins, outfielder, Oxford; and Will Jordan, infielder, Grenada. Powell is a sophomore while the other players are freshmen.

The team begins play on Feb. 3 at Wallace State Community College in Selma, Ala. The team plays Southeastern, Ill. in the home opener on Feb. 17.
