Bulldogs go 2-2 on the opening weekend in Selma, Ala.

SELMA, Ala. --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs opened the 2017 campaign with a 2-2 record here Friday and Saturday. Holmes went 2-1 vs. Wallace Community College and 0-1 vs. Faulkner University's JV team.

In game one Friday, the Bulldogs fell 4-3 losing in the bottom of the seventh inning. Justin Hutton took the loss going only 2/3 of an inning. He gave up one run on one hit with a walk. Chase Allen went four innings and gave up three runs on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks while Sloan Dieter started the game and went three innings and gave up no runs on no hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Dieter had a double in the game.

In game two Friday, sophomore Scott Shearer threw a no-hitter in five innings of work and picked up the win as Holmes won 10-0 over Wallace. Sage Mullins, Keelyn Johnson and Will Jordan each had two hits in the game with Mullins having a homerun and a triple. Dieter added a double.

In game one Saturday, the Bulldogs poured on the steam winning 22-1 over Wallace in five innings. Landry Newsom went two innings and had three strikeouts and one walk. Nick Lawrence went one inning and gave up one run on two hits with two strikeouts while Peyton Sullivan went two innings and gave up one hit with three strikeouts and one walk. Brodie Threet and Josh Tucker each had three hits in the game while Johnson and Dieter had two. Johnson, Newsom, J.D. Hayes and Dieter each had homeruns while Kyle Singleton and Threet had triples and Threet and Tucker had a double.

In game two Saturday, the Bulldogs fell to Faulkner, 5-3. Jeff Crenshaw went 2 2/3 and gave up three runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks while Sullivan went two innings and gave up one hit with a strikeout and Jeb Malley went 1 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Chandler Powell, Newsome, Tucker and Dieter each had a double.
