GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs went 2-2 versus Southeastern Illinois College on Saturday and Sunday here. Southeastern Illinois won Saturday, 7-3 and 8-1 while the Bulldogs won Sunday, 12-10 and 4-3.
The Bulldogs are 4-4 on the season and will travel to Bishop State, Ala. on Friday for two doubleheaders Friday and Saturday at 12/3 p.m. each day.
In game one Sunday, Justin Hutton got the start and went 1/3 of an inning. He gave up four runs on three hits with one strikeout and two walks. Peyton Sullivan went three innings and gave up four runs on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Logan Bell went 1 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on two hits with a walk. Nick Lawrence went two innings and gave up one hit with one strikeout and three walks while Chase Allen went 1/3 of an inning. Keelyn Johnson led the Bulldogs with three hit while Brodie Threet and Sage Mullins each had two hits with Mullins and Threet each having a double.
In game two on Sunday, Jeff Crenshaw went 6 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks while Sullivan went 2/3 of an inning and gave up one hit. Jeb Malley had two hits while Landry Newsom added a homerun. Kyle Singleton lined a hit into center field in the bottom of the seventh scoring Johnson and Newsom to win the game.
In game one on Saturday, Newsom got the start and went 4 1/3 innings. He gave up five runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Allen went 2 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout. Chris Prentiss and Newsom each had a double.
In game two on Saturday, Scott Shearer went four innings and gave up four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Lawrence went three innings and gave up four runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks. The Bulldogs had no multiple hitters.
