SCOOBA --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs had their chances here Wednesday but fell to East Mississippi Community College, 18-12 and 9-6.
With the losses, the Bulldogs fell to 11-19 overall and 2-10 in the MACJC. Holmes travels to Hinds on Saturday for a 2/5 p.m. doubleheader. Holmes then travels to Mississippi Delta on Tuesday for a 1/4 p.m. doubleheader. The Bulldogs will then return home after 10 road games on April 14 at 1/4 p.m. vs. Meridian.
In game one, Scott Shearer suffered the loss on the mound. He went 4 2/3 innings and gave up nine runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Chase Allen went 1/3 of an inning and gave up three runs on one hit with two walks. Peyton Sullivan went three innings and gave up six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Brodie Threet led the Bulldogs with three hits including a triple and two homeruns, one a three-run homer and the other a two-run homer. Jeb Malley and Kyle Singleton each had two hits with Malley adding a solo homerun. Landry Newsom also had a solo homerun.
In game two, the Bulldogs took a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before East Mississippi scored four runs to pull out the win. Sloan Dieter started the game and went 1/3 of an inning and gave up four runs on three hits. Jeff Crenshaw went four innings and gave up one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks. Newsom went 1 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on two hits with three strikeouts and took the loss.
Threet led with two hits including a solo homerun in the sixth inning.
