Cheer tryouts set for March 31

Tryouts for the 2016-17 Cheer Squad at Holmes Community College have been set for March 31 at 3:30 p.m. in Frank Branch Coliseum on the Goodman Campus.

To prepare for the tryouts cheer stunt clinics will be held Feb. 2, 8, 15 and March 1, 15, 21, 28 in the Cheer Gym.

Holmes Community College Cheerleading is a coed program which promotes school spirit for athletics, alumni and foundation events, campus events, and community events. The squad cheers for all football games and home basketball games, as well as campus and community appearances. While competing is not our main focus, the squad has competed the past three years at UCA College Nationals in Orlando, Fla. Scholarships are available.

The squad is composed of nine males and nine females. While there are no set "requirements" stunting and tumbling experience is preferred. Good candidates would be expected to perform the following; toss hands, extension, walk-in, cradle, lib, and shoulder stands. Standing back handspring and a running tumbling pass is highly recommended.
The Holmes Cheerleaders attended College Spirit Camp at the University of Alabama. The squad placed 5th overall in the Open Coed (community and junior colleges) this past summer! The squad was also awarded places in fight song and sideline. At the 2016 UCA College Nationals Competition held in Orlando, the squad placed 7th for their routine in the same division.
