Bobcats outscore Bulldogs, 38-20
GOODMAN — The Holmes Community College Bulldogs scored a touchdown on the ground, in the air and on the defensive side of the ball, but it wasn't enough as the Jones County Junior College defeated the Bulldogs, 35-20, in the non-division contest.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 1-4 on the season and will play Mississippi Delta on Saturday in a Homecoming contest in Goodman. Jones got on the scoreboard in the first quarter when Ben Stevens found Lavoris Powell, who scored all six touchdowns for the Bobcats, on a 27-yard touchdown. The extra point was no good giving Jones the 6-0 lead.
Powell's next touchdown came from a yard out in the second quarter. The two-point try failed.
Holmes' Jewel Ratliff then got the Bulldogs on the board in the second quarter when he stepped in front of a Stevens' pass and raced in from 60 yards out. Mitchell Huff added the extra point to make the score, 12-7.
Powell then scored again in second quarter on a 27-yard pass from Stevens. The extra point was no good making the score 18-7 just before halftime.
In the third, Powell scored again, this time from 75 yards out. The extra point made the score 25-7.
The Bulldogs answered the touchdown with one of their own as Jacorie Ousley scored from 16 yards out. Huff's kick made the score 25-14.
The Bulldogs then scored again in the fourth to pull within five at 25-20 as Matt Hamner found Ledrick Patterson from 15 yards out. The two-point try was no good.
Jones' Powell then scored his final two touchdowns in the fourth, one from seven yards out and one from 30 yards out. The Bobcats then added one of two extra points to end the scoring.
