Bulldogs fall to Warriors, 29-14

GRENADA --- After trailing 16-0 in the second quarter, the Holmes Community College Bulldogs scored 14 unanswered points to pull within two points in the third, but East Central added two more scores to pull out the 29-14 non-division win here in the 2015 Military Appreciation Game at Grenada High School.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 1-3 on the season. Holmes returns to division play Thursday in Moorhead against Mississippi Delta Community College. East Central took a 3-0 lead with 11:37 to play in the first quarter when they hit a 32-yard field goal.

With 2:12 left in the first quarter, the Warriors went up 10-0 on an 18-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good.

East Central increased the lead to 16-0 after another passing touchdown, this one from 19 yards out with 7:27 left in the first half. The extra point was no good.

Holmes got on the scoreboard with 5:26 left in the half when Dre' Massey scored from six yards out. Alex Robles' extra point was good, and East Central led 16-7 at halftime.

The Bulldogs pulled within two points early in the third quarter when Aquindus Henson powered his way in from five yards out. Robles' extra point was good, and EC led 16-14.

East Central scored once more in the third on a 10-yard run and on a one-yard run. The Warriors made one of two extra points in the second half.

Henson had 14 carries for 73 yards. Josiah Coatney had 13 tackles with 2.5 TFLs while Buddy Benson had nine tackles with one TFL, and Kris Newson had eight tackles.
