Bulldogs go to 1-1 in the North Division

MOORHEAD --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs used a powerful running attack and big defensive scores to roll past Mississippi Delta Community College, 45-21, here Thursday night in a big North Division contest.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the North Division. Holmes travels to Northwest Mississippi Community College next Saturday in a division contest. You can listen on the Bulldog Football Network. Gametime is 2 p.m.

Holmes wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first quarter when Willie Cooper pressured the Delta quarterback forcing a fumble and picking it up and running it in from 24 yards out. Kyle Settlemir's kick made the score 7-0 with 14:46 left in the first quarter.

Delta took advantage of a Bulldog fumble later in the quarter and connected on a 16-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good, and the game was tied at seven with 7:45 remaining in the quarter.

Holmes' Aquindus Henson scored twice in the first quarter, once from three yards out and once from five yards out. Settlemir connected on both PATs and Holmes led 21-7 with 22 seconds left in the quarter.

The Bulldogs added another score with 8:32 left in the first half when Dejerric Bryant scampered in from six yards out. Settlemir's extra point made the score 28-7.

Delta broke the line on fourth down and blocked a Bulldog punt and returned it for a touchdown in the second quarter. The extra point was good, and Holmes led 28-14 at halftime.

Henson scored his third touchdown of the night in the third quarter, this time from three yards out. Settlemir's extra point put the Bulldogs up 35-14 with 9:36 left in the quarter.

Settlemir booted a 23-yard field goal with 14:57 left in the fourth quarter to put the Bulldogs on top 38-14.

The Bulldogs got their second defensive score of the night when the Trojan quarterback left the ball on the ground, and Josiah Coatney picked it up and raced in from four yards out. Settlemir's extra point with 9:41 to play in the game was good, and Holmes led 45-14.

Delta added a score with 5:20 to play on a one yard run. The extra point was good to end all scoring.

Holmes ended the night with 333 yards on the ground. Henson had 71 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns while Treviante McDaniel had 52 yards on nine carries. The Bulldog defense had nine tackles for loss for 45 yards and four sacks of two Delta quarterbacks. Theron Hodges had six tackles with 2.5 TFLs and one sack while Isaiah Williams had four tackles.
