Bulldogs get North Division win over Coahoma, 34-17

CLARKSDALE --- Holmes Community College freshman running back Matt Fuller punished the Coahoma Community College Tigers last night in Clarksdale rushing for 192 yards and two touchdowns as the Bulldogs won 34-17.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the first quarter on a 44 yard run. The extra point was good, and Coahoma led 7-0 with 14:17 left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs tied the game at seven with 2:26 left in the first quarter when sophomore running back Dre Massey scored form 17 yards out. Kyle Settlemir's extra point was good.

Coahoma retook the lead with 13:58 left in the second quarter on a 42 yard field goal.

Holmes retook the lead for good with 11:59 left in the first half when Fuller scored from five yards out. Settlemir's extra point was good, and Holmes led 14-10.

The Bulldogs used a huge defensive play for another touchdown when Josiah Coatney caught a deflected pass from teammate Tyrell Robinson and raced 30 yards for the touchdown. The extra point was no good, and the Bulldogs led 20-10 with 9:31 left in the second quarter.

Freshman quarterback Dejerric Bryant with Massey from 34 yards out on a touchdown pass. Settlemir's kick made the score 27-10 at halftime.

Coahoma scored in the third quarter on an eight yard run. The extra point made the score 27-17.

Fuller then reeled off a huge run with 9:24 left in the game when he tight roped the Holmes sidelines for a 55 yard score. The extra point was good ending all scoring at 34-17.

Fuller finished with 22 carries and 192 yards while Massey had Massey had 11 carries for 113 yards. Bryant threw for 148 yards on seven completions. Arthur Turner had two catches for 58 yards and T.J. Beverly had two catches for 45 yards.

Jamar Smith led the Bulldogs with seven tackles while Sean Harper and Buddy Benson each had six tackles. Qmond Woods had two interceptions while Darron Temple and Coatney had the others.
