Bulldogs blast Tigers to end the 2015 campaign

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs put up over 600 yards of offense here today on the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers on Homecoming 2015 and picked up an impressive 56-20 win to end the 2015 season.

With the win, the Bulldogs finished the season 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the North Division.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard first in the game on a touchdown pass. The extra point was blocked by Jevante McAdory, and Northeast led 6-0 with 11:03 left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs answered the score on a seven-yard run by freshman quarterback Dejerric Bryant. Kyle Settlemir's extra point was good, and Holmes took a 7-6 lead with 8:06 left in the first.

Holmes added another score with 3:10 left in the first quarter when Bryant found freshman wide receiver D.J. Montgomery on a 23 yard touchdown pass. The kick was good, and Holmes led 14-6.

The Bulldogs then went up 21-6 when Bryant connected with sophomore running back Dre Massey from 69 yards out. Settlemir's kick was good with 13:30 left before halftime.

The Tigers put up another score with 7:58 in the first half on a touchdown run. The extra point was good, and Holmes led 21-13.

Sophomore running back Arthur Turner then picked up two rushing touchdowns to close out the first half. His first score came with 4:22 left in the first half when he scored from 11 yards out. He then scored with 16 seconds left in the half from five yards out. Both extra points were good, and Holmes led 35-13 at halftime.

Northeast got the scoring started in the second half on a touchdown run. The extra point was good, and Holmes led 35-20 with 4:22 left in the third.

The Bulldogs picked up a touchdown in the third when Bryant found Turner from 18 yards out. The extra point was good, and Holmes led 42-20 with 1:52 left in the third.

Freshman running back Matt Fuller got his only touchdown in the fourth quarter when he scored from seven yards out. The extra point was good, and Holmes went up 49-20 with 9:25 left in the game.

Freshman Isaac McGhee, who normally plays on the defensive side of the ball, scored from five yards out with 4:59 left to play in the game. The extra point was good and ended all scoring at 56-20.

Fuller finished the game with 20 carries and 106 yards and a touchdown. Turner led the Bulldogs with two rushing touchdown and had four carries for 48 yards. Massey had six carries for 56 yards and Isaac McGhee had 62 yards on four carries and a touchdown.

Bryant finished the game 10-of-12 for 237 yards. Massey led the Bulldogs in receiving with 87 yards on two catches and a touchdown. Montgomery had three catches for 78 yards and a touchdown and Turner had 14 yards on two catches and a touchdown.

Buddy Benson had 10 tackles and Darron Temple added nine.
