GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs improved to 2-0 on the season here Thursday night with a 34-20 win over the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears.
Holmes hosts Mississippi Delta Community College next Thursday in Goodman at 6:30 p.m. in the North Division opener for both teams. The game can be heard on the Bulldog Football Network or watched live at holmesccmedia.com.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first in the first quarter when Matt Fuller scored from two yards out. Caleb Shelly's extra point was good making the score 7-0 Holmes with 12:49 left in the first quarter.
The Bears answered the score with 9:44 to play in the first quarter. The extra point tied the game at seven.
Bryant and Montgomery connected again with 13:22 left in the second quarter for a 31-yard touchdown. Shelly's extra point was good, and the Bulldogs led 21-7 at halftime.
The Bulldogs scored in the third quarter on a one yard run by Bryant to go up 28-7 after Shelly's extra point was good with 4:11 to play in the quarter.
Southwest then scored in the fourth quarter on a 17 yard run. The extra point was good with 9:11 to play in the game to make the score 28-14.
Holmes' final score came with 4:56 to play when Antavius Moody tiptoed down the home sidelines for a 16 yard touchdown. The extra point was blocked by Southwest, and Holmes led 34-14.
The Bears scored with 40 seconds left in the game on a one yard run. The extra point was no good.
Cameryn Brent led the Bulldogs with 87 yards on 14 carries while Fuller had 52 yards on 11 carries and Moody had 42 yards on six carries. Bryant was 4-of-8 for 125 yards on two touchdowns. Montgomery had three catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
