CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Graphic Edge Bowl recently announced that Jake Waters will be the keynote speaker at the 2016 Graphic Edge Bowl presented by Hudl on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Jake Waters started his football career playing quarterback for Saint Albert High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Waters had a combined record of 37-2 for Saint Albert and won two state titles as a starter.
After finishing his high school career, Waters stayed put in Council Bluffs to begin his college career at Iowa Western Community College. In his first year, Waters led the Reivers to a 9-2 record. In 2012, Waters' sophomore campaign was historic, setting an NJCAA record for completion percentage at 73.3 percent. He helped the Reivers set the NJCAA record for total offense in a season at 7,181, an average of 598.4 yards per game. The Reivers finished the year undefeated (12-0) and won the school's only NJCAA National Championship. Waters finished the year throwing for 3,501 yards and 39 touchdowns with only three interceptions. He also ran for nearly 300 yards and six touchdowns. Waters took first team All-American honors and was named NJCAA Player of the Year.
After finishing his stint at Iowa Western, Waters transferred to Kansas State where he won starting job. His first year with the Wildcats (2013), Waters passed for 2,469 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Waters returned in 2014 as a starter, passing for 3,501 yards with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Waters left Kansas State as the school's record-holder for completion percentage (64.1), passing efficiency (155.8), total yards per game (260.2) and passing yards per attempt (9.09). After going undrafted, Waters signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks in 2015. Waters eventually signed a deal in the CFL in April 2016 and played a year there before returning to the states.
The Graphic Edge Bowl presented by Hudl will be played on Sunday, Dec. 4 in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the UNI Dome. Kickoff of the Opening Game (Ellsworth vs. Rochester) is 11:00 a.m. The Feature Game (Iowa Western vs. #9 Holmes) will follow at 3:00 p.m. or one hour following the completion of the Opening Game.
