Bulldogs end the season at No. 7 in the NJCAA

The No. 7-ranked Holmes Community College Bulldogs finished the 2016 season with its highest NJCAA ranking since the 2002 season when the Bulldogs finished 13th in the country after claiming the MACJC State Championship.

Holmes came into the polls on Sept. 19 by receiving votes. The team then was ranked in the Top 20 at No. 15 the very next week. Holmes then went between Nos. 15 and 16 after losses to Northwest and East Mississippi before falling out of the Top 20 after falling to Co-Lin. After a win over Northeast, the Bulldogs came back into the poll at No. 19 and moved to No. 11 after a win over Itawamba on Homecoming. The final three polls saw the Bulldogs go between 7th and 9th before ending the year at No. 7.

The MACJC had four teams in the Top 10 and five in the Top 20 to finish the season. East Mississippi was No. 2, Northwest was No. 6, Northeast was No. 10 and Itawamba was No. 19. The remaining Top 20 included: Garden City, No. 1; Arizona Western, No. 3; Trinity Valley, No. 4; Mesa, No. 5; Lackawanna, No. 8; Navarro, No. 9; Kilgore, No. 11; Central Lakes, No. 12; Eastern Arizona, No. 13; Georgia Military, No. 14; Dodge City, No. 15; Highland, No. 16; Butler, No. 17; Snow, No. 18 and North Dakota SCS, No. 20.
