No. 9 Bulldogs roll over Southwest, 67-34

SUMMIT --- The No. 9 Holmes Community College Bulldogs went to 2-0 on the season here Thursday night with a convincing 67-34 non-division win over the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears.

Holmes took advantage of a Southwest turnover to start the game as Tyshauwn White intercepted Brady Anderson at the Southwest 32 and took it all the way to the Bear 18. Sanchez Berry took the pitch from Josh Dodd and raced untouched for the touchdown. Connor McKay's extra point was good, and the Bulldogs led 7-0 with 13:56 to play in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs then scored again with 10:21 left in the quarter when Dodd connected with Berry on a 29-yard touchdown pass. McKay added the extra point to make it 14-0.

Southwest answered Holmes' scores with two of its own to tie game at 14 on two rushing touchdowns, one from three yards out by Nakia Trotter with 9:10 left in the quarter and the other from Chase Hughes from 31 yards out with 8:35 left in the quarter.

Berry picked up his third touchdown of the night with 6:39 left to play when he scored on a 69-yard run. McKay's kick made the score 21-14.

Southwest picked up another score with 3:17 left in the first quarter when Anderson connected with Neil McLaurin from 41 yards to tie the game at 21.

Holmes went back up with 31 seconds left in the first quarter when Dodd connected with Kavonte Younger on a 51-yard touchdown pass. McKay's kick made the score 28-21 after one quarter complete.

Each team scored once more before halftime. Cameryn Brent scored from three yards out, and McKay's kick was good to make it 25-21 with 9:05 left in the second quarter. Hughes picked up another touchdown in the second quarter from two yards out, and the extra point was missed making the score 35-27 with 3:43 left before halftime.

In the third, Brent scored again this time from nine yards out with 10:50 left. Jesse Wilson then connected with Younger from 16 yards with 6:37 left in the quarter. McKay's extra points put the Bulldogs up 49-27 before Southwest added their final score of the night with 3:09 left in the third when Anderson connected with Johnny Wilson from 16 yards out and Gunar Robinson's extra point was good to make the score 29-34.

Wilson scored with 12:24 left in the game from 14 yards out. McKay's kick increased the lead to 56-34. McKay then booted a 40-yard field goal to make it 59-34 with 7:04 left to play before Gabe Short busted through the middle for a 45-yard touchdown. Wilson then connected with Younger on a two-point pass conversion to end all scoring at 67-34.

The Bulldogs finished the game with 682 yards with 551 yards coming on the ground and 131 in the air. Brent finished the game with 173 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns while Berry had four carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Wilson had 80 yards on six carries and one score while Dodd had 67 yards on 13 carries. Dodd was 4-of-7 for 115 yards and two touchdowns while Wilson was 1-of-2 for 16 yards and one touchdown.

Lorenzo McCaskill finished the game with 13 tackles including one sack and two tackles for loss. Vada King had 10 tackles including two tackles for loss. Brylon Fowler had eight tackles with .5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss while Jaderrius Hooks had seven tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
