Bulldogs get 66-63 win over the Hinds Bulldogs
UTICA --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs went to 8-3 on the season here Monday night with a 66-63 over the Hinds Community College Bulldogs to open second semester play.
The Hinds Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-3 lead with 16:04 to play in the first half on two free throws by Cornelius Hudson. Holmes then tied the game at 12 with 11:45 on a Deangelo Priar dunk. After the teams traded baskets before another Priar dunk gave the Bulldogs a 22-19 lead with 7:15 to play. Kenitric Gillum rebound and basket with six minutes to play gave the Bulldogs a five-point lead at 26-21. The lead increased to 34-27 with 2:07 to play in the first on a two-point bucket in the lane by DeAndre Scott. Demarcus Lewis hit one of two free throws with 30 seconds to play in the half to make the score 38-31 at halftime.
Holmes increased the second half lead to 11 points on a basket by Gillum with 17:56 to play. Hinds' Trevis Thomas cut the lead to three points with 12:56 to play on one of two free throws. Holmes was able to increase the lead only to six points the remainder of the game.
Hinds was able to tie the game at 62 with 2:20 to play on a bucket by Thomas. The Bulldogs were able to hold off Hinds the rest of the way on a bucket by Gillum and free throws from Rowe and Demarcus Lewis.
