Bulldogs suffer heartbreaker to Northwest, 73-70
SENATOBIA --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs battled hard here Monday night but came up short in the end losing to Northwest Mississippi Community College, 73-70, and falling to 3-2 in the North Division and 10-5 overall.
Northwest jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the game and held an 11-point lead at halftime, 40-29. The teams battled back and forth in the second half.
A Deangelo Priar layup with 17:21 to play pulled the Bulldogs to within six at 47-41. Then a Demarcus Lewis layup with 10 minutes to play tied the game at 53. A Daniel Francis three pointer with 19 seconds to go brought the Bulldogs to within three points at 73-70. Torrance Rowe missed a three pointer with eight seconds to go, and the Rangers got the rebound.
Priar led the Bulldogs with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Demarcus Lewis followed with 19 points and nine rebounds.
The Bulldogs host Hinds on Thursday night at 8 p.m. and then host Itawamba on Monday night at 8 p.m.
