GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs built up a 12-point lead at halftime here Thursday night against the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers and were able to hang on for the 71-67 win to finish the 2014-15 North Division schedule with only one loss and 11 wins.
With the win, the Bulldogs went to 18-5 on the season and now await word on what time they'll play the South Division No. 4 seed Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs on Tuesday at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson in the MACJC State Tournament. Gulf Coast defeated Co-Lin Thursday night to get the fourth seed in the South. Holmes and Gulf Coast did not play in the regular season.
Holmes pulled away in the first half and led 35-23 before the Tigers fought back in the second half and outscored the Bulldogs, 44-36. Macon was the only Bulldog in double figures with 20 points. Vercell Webster led the Bulldogs with six rebounds while Torlorf Thomas had five.
Holmes shot 42.6 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from the three-point line and 63 percent from the free throw line. Northeast shot 46 percent from the floor, 17.6 from behind the arc and 94.7 from the free throw line.
