WESSON --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs started off slow here Monday night against Copiah-Lincoln Community College but pulled away in the second half for the 82-74 season-opening win.

Co-Lin led 6-2 early in the contest before Cedric Harper hit one of two free throws with 18:25 left in the first half to tie the game at six. Co-Lin then increased the lead to 10 points at 18-8 with 12:49 before the Bulldogs went on a 15-5 run with 7:28 to play in the first half to tie the game at 23 on a bucket by Dietrich Taylor.
After the game was tied at 29 with 3:09 left in the first half, Taylor hit two more buckets to give Holmes the 33-29 lead at halftime.
Daryl Macon hit two free throws with 13:57 left in the game to give the Bulldogs a 10-point lead at 47-37 before the Wolves began clawing their way back into the game and tied the game at 54 with 8:50 to play.
The Bulldogs pulled out to a 10-point lead again with 3:48 to play on a three-pointer from Jamahl Jackson making the score 71-61. A Macon bucket pushed it to 12 points with 3:06 left in the game.
Holmes then was able to hit some free throws down the stretch to keep the Wolves from retaking the lead.
The Bulldogs shot 46 percent (27-of-58) from the floor and 72 percent (26-of-36) from the free throw line in the contest.
Macon finished with 27 points while Taylor had 17 and Harper had 11. Harper led with 14 rebounds.
