BOONEVILLE – The Holmes Community College Bulldogs made it two North Division Championships in a row with a 99-94 overtime win over the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers here Thursday night.
With the win, the Bulldogs went to 18-5 and 9-3 in the North and will be the North No. 1 in the MACJC State Tournament next week at Itawamba. The Bulldogs will play the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs, the South's No. 4 seed, at 6 p.m. Monday. Gulf Coast went into last night's final regular season game tied for first and fell to No. 4 with a loss.
The Bulldogs led 45-39 at halftime after shooting over 60 percent for the first half with Holmes sophomore guard Daryl Macon scoring 18 points in the first half and Xavier Williams had 10. The Tigers came back out in the second half and outscored the Bulldogs 46-40 after the Bulldogs got into foul trouble. Holmes outscored Northeast in overtime 99-94 for the win.
Macon finished with 37 points and shot 11-of-20 from the floor and 6-of-12 from the three-point line and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. D'Angelo Richardson finished strong in the second half and had 20 points in the game while Jamahl Jackson and Williams each had 10.
For the game, the Bulldogs shot 58 percent (34-58) from the floor, 50 percent (11-22) from the three-point line and 71 percent (20-28) from the free-throw line. The Tigers shot 45 percent from the floor, 44 percent from the three-point line and 67 percent from the free-throw line shooting 43 free throws and making 29.
