GOODMAN --- For the second year in a row, the Holmes Community College Bulldogs will go into the MACJC State Basketball Tournament as the North's No. 1 seed.
Holmes, who finished the season at 18-5 overall and 9-3 in the North Division, will face the South Division's No. 4 team Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs, who finished the season 18-5 and 9-5 in the South Division, on Monday night at 6 p.m. Monday at Itawamba in the MACJC State Basketball Tournament. Holmes is led by sophomore guard Daryl Macon, who is averaging 22.9 points per game. Sophomore D'Angelo Richardson is averaging 13.1 points per game and Sophomore Cedric Harper is averaging 10.3 points per game. As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 75.26 points per game and are shooting 48 percent from the floor, 36 percent from three-point range and 69 percent from the free-throw line.
Holmes is giving up 66.47 points per game.
Gulf Coast is led by freshman Davion Cole-Johnson, who is averaging 18 points per game. Sophomore Anfernee Hampton is averaging 15.2 points per game and sophomore DeShawn Jones is averaging 13.8 points per game. As a team, Gulf Coast is averaging 87 points per game and are shooting 45 percent from the floor, 33.4 percent from the three-point line and 64.8 percent from the free-throw line.
