SCOOBA --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs finished off the regular season here Thursday night by knocking off the East Mississippi Community College Lions, 71-64, and are now preparing for next week's MACJC State Tournament.
With the win, the Bulldogs went to 15-8 overall and 9-3 in the North Division. The bracket for the MACJC State Tournament will be released later today but early indications are that Holmes will play South No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jones County Junior College.
The Bulldogs trailed East Miss., 35-33, at halftime but outscored the Lions 38-29 to pull out the win.
Justin Johnson, who had missed the last few games due to injury, returned and led the Bulldogs in scoring with 19 points. Mikkel Norment followed with 18 and Trevais Spencer had 15. The Bulldogs shot 54.5 percent from the floor, 38.9 percent from the three-point line and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line.
