Former Bulldog standout plays in National Premier Soccer League
Former Holmes Community College standout Marcus Siler suited up for the Georgia Revolution of the National Premier Soccer League in Conyers, Ga., this summer. His team missed the national tournament by one game.
Siler of Madison, who played for the Bulldogs and Head Coach Matt Convertino for two seasons, played in five games for the Revolution, which finished with five wins, two losses and one tie. The Revolution finished tied for first place in their division but won't make the national tournament due to a tie breaker. Siler was chosen as a Revolution member after an open tryout.
This fall, Siler becomes a member of the Southern Polytechnic State University team in Marietta, Ga. The SPSU Hornets, who play in the Southern States Athletic Conference with Belhaven and William Carey, have been to the two past Sweet Sixteens in NAIA men's soccer. The Hornets ended up in the top 10 after the 2010 season.
Siler credits his two years at Holmes for giving him the opportunity to play for the Hornets and for the Revolution. "Matt really helped me understand that giving everything I had at every practice and in every game will bring out the best in everyone around me," Siler said. "Holmes helped me learn how to push my teammates in an appropriate manner in order to become a stronger team and become stronger players."
