Holmes softball opens the season tomorrow at Southwest

The 2018 Holmes Community College Lady Bulldog softball team has 11 returning players to this year's squad.

Returners include: Madison Womble, infielder, Carrollton; Avery Thornton, infielder, Carrollton; Jana Newell, catcher/infielder, Ridgeland; Juliet Warriner, pitcher, Brandon; Abby Bouslay, infielder, Brandon; Madison Fields, outfielder, Raleigh; Kaitlyn Warren, pitcher, Magee; Emily Littlejohn, outfielder, Eupora; Madison Frazier, pitcher/infielder, Jackson; Courtney Hatcher, infielder, Eupora; and Becca Kennedy, outfielder, Magee.

Littlejohn led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with a .341 batting average which included 29 scored, 30 hits, six doubles, two homeruns and 18 RBIs. Thornton was the only other .300 hitting returner for the Lady Bulldogs. She batted .333 which included 19 runs scored, 18 hits, two doubles and six RBI. Newell was just under .300 at .291 which included 11 runs scored, 23 hits, one double, one homerun and 11 RBI. Warren had a 3.61 ERA for the Lady Bulldogs appearing in 14 games and giving up 35 hits, 18 runs with five strikeouts.

Newcomers include: Haley Tedder, infielder, Vardaman; Madison Brown, infielder, Brandon; Haley Armstrong, infielder, Grenada; Katie Lawrence, pitcher, Kosciusko; Jolie Smith, catcher, Denham Springs, La.; Allison Irby, pitcher, Denham Springs, La.; Aubree McWilliams, outfielder/catcher, Meridian; Cailee Arender, catcher, Pearl; Brooklyne Eubanks, pitcher/infielder, Mize.

Ricky Casey is the head coach of the Lady Bulldogs, and Christa Childress is the assistant coach.

The Lady Bulldogs begin the season tomorrow at Southwest at 2/4 p.m. They will then play in the Hinds Community College Tournament on Feb. 10 before playing Co-Lin on Feb. 13 in the home opener at 2/4 p.m.
