Lady Bulldogs improve to 2-0 in the North Division
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in the North Division and 6-2 overall after getting a 66-61 win over the Northeast Mississippi Lady Tigers here Monday night.
The Lady Bulldogs will not play again until Jan. 9 when they travel to Hinds Community College in Utica.
Northeast held a 9-4 lead with 15 minutes to play in the first half, but the Lady Bulldogs battled back to tie the game at 11 with 12:45 to go in the first half on a bucket by Louise Collins. With 10 minutes to play, the Lady Tigers went up 15-13 but pulled out by 10 with 3:10 to play.
The Lady Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run in a minute and a half and pulled the score to 31-27 with 1:42 to play in the first half. Northeast led 35-31 at the half.
Holmes took the lead with 18 minutes to play after Collins hit two free throws. After the game was tied at 47, Northeast went on a 7-2 run and went up 54-49 with seven minutes to go in the game. Kierra Gilmore scored with 2:56 to pull within two at 57-55 and Amber Clay got an offensive rebound to score to tied the game at 57 with 2:11 to go.
Jessica Miles' bucket with 1:57 put the Lady Bulldogs 59-57. After a four-point play by Kierra Gilmore with 1:08 to go, the Lady Bulldogs with up 63-58. With 23.5 seconds to go, the Lady Bulldogs went up 65-61 on two free throws from Miles.
Kierra Gilmore led the Lady Bulldogs with 23 points while Collins had 12 and Miles had 11.
