Lady Bulldogs hold down the top spot in the North Division

SENATOBIA --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs continued to hold down the top spot in the North Division with a 66-53 win here Monday night over the Northwest Mississippi Lady Rangers.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs went to 11-2 and 5-0 in the North Division and only have Itawamba Community College left to play to complete the first round of North Division play on Monday night in Goodman.

Northwest jumped out to a 7-2 lead with 16:35 to play in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs then took their first lead of the game at 13-12 with 10:56 to play in the first half. Holmes held the lead until 5:55 to play in the first half when Erica Turner made a jumper for Northwest, who took the 19-17 lead.

A Jacquonna Young jumper with 4:52 to play gave the Lady Bulldogs the lead back at 22-21, and the lead grew to nine by halftime at 32-23.

A Louise Collins free throw with 15:33 to play increased the lead to 11 and the lead grew to 12 at 45-33 with 11:18 to go on a Kierra Gilmore free throw. Amber Clay's bucket with 9:37 to play increased the lead to 13.

Louise Collins led the Lady Bulldogs with 25 points and 14 rebounds while Young followed with 10 points. Dierra Gilmore had 10 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs host Hinds on Thursday night at 6 p.m. and then face-off with the North Division co-leader Itawamba on Monday night.
