Lady Bulldogs get 62-48 win over the Lady Wildcats in Region XXIII Tournament

CLINTON --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs led by as many as 16 points in the second half versus the Pearl River Lady Wildcats in the first round of the Region XXIII Tournament here and will advance to the semi-finals Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. versus Itawamba.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs went to 17-6 on the season. Friday's game with Itawamba can be heard on 101.1 FM or at breezynews.com starting at 2:55 p.m.

Holmes led only a three-point lead at halftime at 25-22. The second half turned into a Gilmore show as Kierra and Dierra Gilmore hit some big three-pointers to help the Lady Bulldogs pull away. Dierra Gilmore's three with 16:25 to play increased the lead to 10 points at 36-26. Kierra then hit two free throws after an intentional foul by the Lady Wildcats and then a three-pointer with 9:30 to play to make the score 47-33.

Amber Clay hit a bucket from inside with 2:15 to play to increase the lead to 16 points with 2:15 left to play.

Kierra Gilmore led with the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points. She had three three-pointers and was five-of-six from the free throw line. Dierra Gilmore had 14 points including three three-pointers and hit three-of-four free throws. Louise Collins had 12 points including two three-pointers and was six-of-eight from the free throw line. Collins and Kierra Anderson led the Lady Bulldogs with eight rebounds each.
