Summit --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs fell behind 11-0 early in Monday night's game versus Southwest Mississippi Community College and were never able to recover falling 58-48.
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 3-5 overall and will open North Division play on Thursday night against East Mississippi at 6 p.m. The game can be watched live at holmesathletics.ihigh.com.
Southwest jumped out early and held an 11-0 lead before Dasha Adams hit one of two free throws. The Lady Bears increased the lead to 16 points at 25-9 with 8:11 to play in the half on a three-pointer from Katelyn Whaley. The lead grew to 18 points with 5:47 to play when Whaley hit another three-pointer. Southwest led 32-17 at halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs fought back in the second half and cut the lead to eight points at 40-32 with 9:20 to play in the game on a three-point play from Tamia Grady. A Grady layup with 7:11 to go brought the score to 42-38, which is as close as the Lady Bulldogs would come.
Grady finished with 19 points while Denesha Dillard had 10. Jessica Miles had 10 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Bulldogs suffered two defeats last week in the Gulf Coast Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs fell to Gulf Coast on Monday, 79-70 and to Baton Rouge, 62-49 on Tuesday.
Against Gulf Coast, Grady led with 22 points while Dillard had 21 and Krystal Baker had 11. Miles led with six rebounds.
Against Baton Rouge, Grady had 16 points while Shanese Carter had 10. Carter also had five rebounds.
