GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs fell to the Northeast Mississippi Community College Lady Tigers by one earlier in the season, but bounced back in a mighty way here Thursday night winning 85-58 to secure their position in the MACJC State Tournament Monday in Wesson.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs went to 16-7 overall and 7-5 in the North Division. Holmes is set to play East Central (South No. 2) in the first round, but the time has not been finalized yet. Holmes and East Central did not play in the regular season.
Holmes jumped out to a 35-24 lead at halftime and then poured it on in the second half outscoring Northeast, 50-34. Aja Williams led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 29 points while Tayanna Purnell had 15. Williams and LaShonda Wilson each had seven rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.
Holmes shot 50 percent from the floor, 35 percent from the three-point line and 76.9 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Tigers shot 28 percent from the floor, 20 percent from behind the arc and 69 percent from the free throw line.
