GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs are headed to the MACJC State Tournament as the No. 3 seed out of the North Division. They play the South Division's No. 2 seed East Central at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson.
The Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Warriors did not play during the regular season.
Holmes is averaging 74 points per game and is giving up 47.3 points per game. Holmes is led by Aja Williams (5-9, guard, freshman, Jackson), Carmesha Nalls (5-5, guard, sophomore, Lexington) and Tiffany Jones (6-0, forward, freshman, Memphis, Tenn.).
Williams is averaging 18.2 points per game while Nalls is averaging 13.3 points per game and Jones is averaging 11.2 points per game. Leading rebounder for the Lady Bulldogs is Jones with 9.2 rebounds per game. Nalls leads the Lady Bulldogs from behind the three-point arc with a 34.5 percent average.
Holmes played seven games against teams from the South Division and went 6-1 against them only losing to the No. 1 seed from the South Division Copiah-Lincoln in the season opener, 75-69.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs are shooting 37.6 percent from the floor, 29.5 percent from three-point range and 62.6 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Bulldogs bring in 43.6 rebounds per game and dish out 15.2 assists.
East Central finished 10-4 in the South Division. Two of their losses came against the South Division's No. 1 seed the Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College losing 81-71 and 101-99, and they split contests with Southwest Mississippi Community College winning 95-70 and losing 78-76 and Jones County Junior College losing 91-87 and winning 115-111.
The Lady Warriors are averaging 84.8 points per game and are giving up 56.5 points per game. They are led by Jalesia Jones (5-8, guard/forward, sophomore, Waynesboro), Tashi-ana Thompson (5-8, guard, sophomore, Lithonia, Ga.), Shakerya Morrison (5-11, forward, sophomore, Wendell, N.C.), Samantha Duncan (5-10, guard, freshman, Hattiesburg) and Tynika Bender (5-4, point guard, sophomore, Newton).
Jones and Thompson are the leading scorers for the Lady Warriors with 13.4 points per game. Morrison is averaging 13 points per game, Duncan is averaging 11.8 and Bender is averaging 10.4. Leading rebounder for the Lady Warriors is Morrison with 10.8 rebounds per game. Duncan is the leading three-point shooter with a 32.9 percent average from behind the arc.
East Central played six North Division contests against East Mississippi, Coahoma and Mississippi Delta and won all six.
