Lady Bulldogs fall in opener to Co-Lin, 74-68

WESSON --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs battled hard here Monday night in the season opener but fell 74-68 to the Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

Holmes held a 13-9 lead with 2:30 to play in the first quarter on a bucket from Aja Williams. The Lady Wolves took the lead a minute later and led 18-17 after one quarter.

A Williams' three-pointer but the Lady Bulldogs up 26-23 with 5:40 to play in the second quarter, and Holmes led 33-29 with two minutes to play in the second quarter on another bucket from Williams. Colin took a lead with 50 seconds left in the second quarter before Williams tied the game just before halftime at 36.

The teams went back and forth in the third quarter, and Co-Lin jumped out to a five-point lead with two minutes to play in the third. The Lady Bulldogs then went up five late in the third on a bucket from Laricka Morgan, and Holmes led 53-50 after three quarters.

The Lady Bulldogs went up four points at 59-55 on a Kawaii Perry three-pointer with 7:25 before Co-Lin tied the game at 59 with 6:38 to play in the fourth and never relinquished the lead after that point.

Williams finished with 23 points and six rebounds. Minyone Hill had 12 points and Tiffany Jones had 10. Jones led with 13 rebounds while Cortrice Golden had eight and Hill also added six rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 43 percent (28-of-65) from the floor.
