SENATOBIA --- Despite holding a 10-point lead over No. 25-ranked Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers here Thursday, the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs fell here Thursday, 84-82.
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the North Division. Holmes hosts Coahoma Monday at 6 p.m.
Holmes jumped out on Northwest in the first quarter and led 19-12. The lead increased to 10 points at halftime, 45-35. Northwest put together a 12-3 run in the third quarter before Holmes responded with a run of its own to lead by 10 after three quarters. Northwest then scored 10 points to start the fourth quarter on some hot three-point shooting to get back into the game.
Holmes pushed back ahead 73-69 after four straight points from Tiffany Jones before five straight from Northwest gave them back the lead at 74-73. Aja Williams hit a three-pointer with 40 seconds to play to cut the Lady Ranger lead to one. Northwest answered with a free throw, but Williams' three-pointer at the buzzer fell short giving the Lady Rangers the win.
Holmes had five scorers in double figures, led by 19 from Williams. Jones followed with 16 points, Minyone Hill had 15, Kawaii Perry had 11 and Laricka Morgan had 10. Jones finished with 11 rebounds while Morgan had nine and Perry had eight.
