Lady Bulldogs secure North No. 3 slot with win over NEMCC

BOONEVILLE --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs did what was necessary to secure the No. 3 slot in next week's MACJC State Tournament with a 55-52 win over the Northeast Mississippi Community College Lady Tigers.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs went to 17-6 overall and finished 8-4 in the North. Holmes will be the No. 3 seed in the State Tournament and will play Jones, the South No. 2 seed, on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Itawamba.

Northeast led 18-14 at the end of the first period and then the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Tigers, 11-4, in the second quarter to lead 25-22 at halftime. Northeast outscored the Lady Bulldogs in the third, 17-15, to pull the Lady Tigers to within one, 40-39, and then the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Tigers, 15-13, in the final period to pull out the win.

Tiffany Jones led the Lady Bulldogs with 21 points while Aja Williams had 17. Jones pulled in 12 rebounds while Williams had seven and Kawaii Perry had six.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent from the floor, 30 percent from the three-point line and 53 percent from the free-throw line while Northeast shot 35 percent from the floor, 0 percent from the three-point line and 85 percent from the free-throw line.
