Lady Bulldogs fall in state tournament; now await word on Region XXIII Tournament

FULTON --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs fought hard to the very end here Tuesday night the MACJC State Basketball Tournament against Jones County Junior College but came up short, 69-58, in their quest of the state title.

With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 17-7 overall. Holmes is now awaiting word on who they'll play in the Region XXIII Tournament next week at Mississippi College.

Holmes led once during the first quarter, and Jones lead the rest of the way. The Lady Bobcats led 17-12 after one period and 35-24 at halftime. Jones outscored the Lady Bulldogs 16-22 in the third before the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Bobcats, 22-18, in the final period.

Tiffany Jones led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points while Aja Williams and Minyone Hill each had 11. Jones led the Lady Bulldogs with six rebounds.

For the game, the Lady Bulldogs shot 37 percent from the floor, 17.6 from three-point range and 60 percent from the free-throw line while Jones shot 37.3 percent from the floor, 41.2 percent from the three-point line and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.
