CLINTON --- Sophomores Laricka Morgan and Kawaii Perry each poured in 21 points here Wednesday night in the NJCAA Region XXIII Tournament to help the Lady Bulldogs defeated the MACJC State Champion Lady Warriors of East Central, 77-75.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs move to 18-7 on the season. Holmes will face Copiah-Lincoln at noon on Friday in the semi-finals. Baton Rouge and Itawamba also advanced to the semi-finals Friday. You can watch the game live on holmesccmedia.com or listen on 101.1 FM or breezynews.com.
The Lady Bulldogs went up 16-15 at the end of the first quarter on a last second shot by Minyone Hill. The Lady Bulldogs then outscored East Central in the second quarter, 20-14, and led 36-29 at halftime. The third quarter belonged to the Lady Bulldogs as well as they outscored the Lady Warriors, 29-19, before East Central began battling back in the fourth. Holmes was outscored 27-12 in the fourth, but the Lady Bulldogs made the shots they needed to pull out the win.
After East Central took a 75-74 lead with a little over a minute to play, Perry hit a huge three-pointer to put the Lady Bulldogs up for good.
Aja Williams finished with 15 points. Holmes shot 51 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from the three-point line and 81.3 percent from the free throw line. Holmes outscored East Central in bench play 27-2 with Morgan having 21 of the 27 points. Morgan hit 9-of-11 free throws in the game.
