Lady Bulldogs fall in Region XXIII semi-finals, 64-54

CLINTON --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs' season came to a close here Friday afternoon after falling 64-54 to the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves in the semi-finals of the NJCAA Region XXIII Tournament at Mississippi College.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the season at 18-8 overall.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the contest before the Lady Wolves got a 5-4 lead. Holmes then went back up later 6-5 on a bucket from Cortrice Golden. Co-Lin then went back up 9-8 before a three-pointer by Golden put the Lady Bulldogs up 11-9. Co-Lin hit a shot at the buzzer at the end of the first period to go up 16-15.

A three-pointer by Co-Lin with five minutes to play before halftime but the Lady Wolves up by four at 25-21. The Lady Bulldogs cut the lead to 27-25 at halftime. Co-Lin led by as much as nine in the third period before the lead was cut to 47-40 at the end of the third period.

Aja Williams hit two free throws with 7:05 to play in the game to cut the lead to five points at 50-45 before Co-Lin pulled away at the end to win by 10 points, 64-54. The Lady Wolves had a 13-point lead in the fourth.

Golden lead the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points while Minyone Hill had 14 and Williams had nine. Kawaii Perry had 10 rebounds while Golden added nine and Williams had seven.

Holmes shot 39.3 percent from the floor, 22.2 percent from the three-point line and 61.5 percent from the free-throw line. The Lady Bulldogs committed 16 turnovers and Co-Lin had 13.
