Lady Bulldogs suffer heartbreaking loss to Lady Rangers

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs suffered a heartbreaking 57-55 loss here Saturday to the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers. The Lady Rangers hit a shot at the buzzer to win out the win.

With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the North Division. Holmes will return to action on Thursday night at 6 p.m. vs. Coahoma. You can watch live at holmesccmedia.com. Monday night's game vs. Delgado has been postponed to a later date.

Holmes trailed Northwest 55-53 with 21 seconds left to play when Kamelia Lacy was fouled on a three-point attempt. Lacy hit the first and third free throws to tie the game at 55. Nortwest's Mercades Ward got the ball at the baseball with three seconds and put the ball up and in as the horn sounded giving Northwest the win.

Northwest led 19-17 after one period of play before the Lady Bulldogs retook the lead at 33-31 at halftime. Northwest outscored Holmes 14-10 in the third and both teams scored 12 in the fourth to give Northwest the two point edge in the final score.

Lacy and Ja'Breonia Veasey each scored 11 points in the game while Nina Carpenter, Vaquela Pimpton and Brittany Webster each had eight with Carpenter pulling down 11 rebounds with seven blocks.
