Phillips, Townes named Players of the Week

GOODMAN --- Holmes Community College sophomore forward Kristen Phillips on the women's soccer team and sophomore linebacker Jalon Townes on the football team have been named Holmes Community College Players of the Week following their play last week.

Phillips, a West Lauderale product from Collinsville, scored three goals for the Lady Bulldogs in matches with Hinds and Jones and added two assists. Holmes defeated Hinds, 6-1, and No. 2 Jones, 4-1. Holmes, now 7-2, travels to Itawamba on Tuesday and Southwest on Friday.

Townes, a Grenada High product from Grenada, had a big night Thursday in the Bulldogs' 41-7 win over Northeast in Booneville. He finished with 11 tackles (8 solo) with two sacks and three tackles for loss. Holmes, now 4-0, hosts Jones this Thursday in Goodman at 6:30 p.m.
