Phillips, Ford named Holmes CC's Players of the Week
GOODMAN --- Holmes Community College sophomore forward Kristen Phillips on the women's soccer team and sophomore quarterback John Ford on the football team have been named Holmes Community College Players of the Week following their play last week.
Phillips, a West Lauderdale product from Collinsville, scored two goals and had two assists last week vs. Gulf Coast and Meridian. Holmes defeated Gulf Coast, 4-0, and tied Meridian, 3-3, on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs close out the regular season Tuesday in Scooba vs. East Mississippi at 5 p.m. Holmes will play Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Region 23 Tournament.
Ford, a Sumrall product from Sumrall, came into the game in the second half to help the lead the Bulldogs back from a 28-7 halftime deficit to a 35-31 lead with 12 second to play before the Rangers scored on a Hail Mary as time ran out to win the game, 37-35. He finished the game 16-of-26 for 331 yards and two touchdowns and added another rushing touchdown. Holmes hosts East Mississippi on Thursday at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs must win to make the MACCC playoffs.
