Jacobs, Townes named Holmes CC's POTW

GOODMAN --- Holmes Community College freshman forward Akala Jacobs on the women's soccer team and sophomore linebacker Jalon Townes on the football team have been named Holmes Community College Players of the Week following their play last week.

Jacobs, a Madison Central product from Madison, scored four goals in Holmes' 10-0 win over East Mississippi last Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Co-Lin in the Region 23 quarterfinals on Saturday and play Pearl River in the Region 23 semifinals on Thursday in Ellisville at 4:30 p.m.

Townes, a Grenada High product from Grenada, finished Thursday's Homecoming matchup with 13 tackles (8 solo) and two tackles for loss and one forced fumble. Holmes fell to East Mississippi, 51-15, but will enter the MACCC playoffs on Saturday against East Central as the North No. 2 seed.
