Tigers defeat Bulldogs, 21-0

BOONEVILLE — The Holmes Community College Bulldogs had chances to put some points on the scoreboard but came up empty as the No. 19- ranked Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers won the game 21-0, knocking the Bulldogs to 1-1 in the North Division.

The Bulldogs got a break in the first quarter when Northeast returner Deion Belue took a Mitchell Huff punt back 65 yards for an apparent touchdown, but the score was negated due to a holding penalty on the Tigers. Northeast later scored on the drive on a 14-yard screen pass to Ryan Jones with 6:47 in the first quarter. Taylor Earhart added the extra point to make the score 7-0.

Northeast added a touchdown early in the second quarter when Jamarcus Goodloe scored from a yard out with 13:44 left in the first half. Earhart's extra point was good making the score 14-0.

The Bulldogs marched on the way to the Northeast nine yard line when Marvell Taylor stepped in front of a Nolan Genovese pass to thwart the Bulldogs' scoring drive.

The Bulldogs drove down again in the third quarter but a 22-yard Huff field goal was blocked by Northeast's Eli Canton.

A  13-yard scoring strike to Tres Houston with 1:18 left in the third quarter gave the Tigers the 21-0 lead after the Earhart kick.
