Bulldogs fall to the Warriors, 14-6
DECATUR --- After nearly an hour lightning delay here Thursday, the Holmes Community College Bulldogs jumped out in front of the East Central Community College Warriors 6-0 in the first quarter, but the Warriors outscored the Bulldogs going down the stretch 14-0 to pull out the 14-6 non-division win.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 1-3 on the season. Holmes returns to North Division action on Thursday against Mississippi Delta. Holmes jumped out 6-0 in the first quarter when Javon Arnett scored from a yard out with 7:32 left in the quarter. Cole Ballard's extra point was no good.
East Central tied the game with 31 seconds left in the first half when Ethan Hamilton connected with Kabion Ento from 28 yards out. The Warriors took the lead on the extra point from Brenna O'Keefe.
The Warriors took advantage of a Bulldog fumble early in the third quarter and marched 33 yards to go up 14-6 after O'Keefe's extra point was good.
Dre Massey and Mitchell Cunningham each finished the game with 35 yards on six carries from Massey and eight from Cunningham. Jamal Veazey led the Bulldogs in tackles with 14 including a fumble recovery and .5 tackles for loss. Mohamed Camara had 12 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss while Antreon Bennett had eight tackles including one sack and one tackle for loss.
