Builldogs fall to the NE Tigers, 14-10
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs battled with the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers here Thursday night but fell 14-10 in the second game of the season.
Holmes will travel to Coahoma Thursday night. You can listen to the game on the Bulldog Radio Network starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Tigers took the opening kickoff and took a 7-0 lead with 12:57 left in the first quarter.
Holmes answered the score with 5:36 left in the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Kyren Batey drove the team down before punching it in from the one yard line. On the drive, Batey broke loose on a 65-yard run from the Holmes 23 yard line to the Northeast 12 to move the Bulldogs down the field. Sophomore kicker Blake Backel's extra point tied the game at seven.
The Bulldogs took a 10-7 with 9:19 left in the third when Backel connected on a 25-yard field goal.
Northeast took the lead for good with 2:59 left in the third on a quarterback run and extra point to go up 14-10.
Batey finished the game with 161 yards on 22 carries while sophomore B back Devontaye Bankston had 67 yards on 22 carries.
Freshman linebacker Jordan Milton led the Bulldogs with 10 tackles including three tackles for loss and .5 sacks. Freshman linebacker Devin Chambers had seven tackles including 2.5 TFLs and .5 sacks while freshman defensive back Justice Robinson had five tackles and freshman defensive lineman Dillion Cage, sophomore linebacker Colin Hunt and freshman defensive back Tomicrin Taylor each had four tackles. Taylor had one TFL while Cage added .5 TFL.
