Miller named DL/Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Bulldogs
Crystal Springs native Barron Miller has been named the new defensive line and head strength and conditioning coach at Holmes Community College.
Miller, a graduate of Copiah Academy, was named All District Middle Linebacker and Copiah Academy and was the team MVP at quarterback and was Team Captain. Prior to going to Copiah, he attended Wesson High School, where he was named All District Middle Linebacker.
After Copiah, he played for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he was named All-State Defensive End and received the team MVP Award at Defensive Lineman and the "War Daddy" Award, which is awarded to the player that overcomes the most adversity. He then transferred to North Alabama, where he was started at defensive end as a junior and middle linebacker as a senior. North Alabama won four straight conference championships, and he was a part of two of them. In 2016, North Alabama fell in the national championship game.
He then played for Austria's NFL Europe team, where he was team captain. He led the league in total tackles and tackles for loss.
After his playing days, he got into coaching. His stops included: St. Martin High School as linebacker coach, where all three linebackers were All-District; Copiah Academy as defensive line coach as well as strength and conditioning for boys and girls grades 7-12; Forrest County High School as assistant defensive coordinator and linebacker coach; Plano Senior High School in Dallas, Texas as defensive line coach, where all defensive linemen were All-District; and coached an overseas youth league for 15-17 year olds.
He also has a background in personal fitness. He served as assistant manager at D1 Training in Hattiesburg and also owned his own business named Beyond Fitness, where he's trained athletes from every level and all sports such as basketball, football and baseball. In the recent offseason, he worked with Pete Jenkins training Will Anderson from Alabama, Ali Gaye from LSU and BJ OJulari from LSU.
Miller is engaged to Rachel Voltz and is the son of Michael and Sarah Miller and brother to SarahBeth Miller. He holds an associate's degree from Gulf Coast and a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from North Alabama.
Athleticism runs in his family. His great uncle, Tommy Henry, coached at Brandon High School for 15 years and played at Co Lin and West Alabama. His great uncle, Bill Henry, played at West Alabama and was a golden glove boxer as well. His sister and all four of his cousins have state championships in high school as well.
