Bulldogs fall to Bobcats, 38-28
ELLISVILLE --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs fell here Saturday to the Jones College Bobcats, 38-28, in MACCC action.
Holmes, now 2-3 overall, will play Mississippi Delta on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in Moorhead.
Jones scored with 5 minutes left in the first quarter on a rushing touchdown. After the extra point, the Bobcats led 7-0.
The Bobcats went up 14-0 with 1:17 left in the first on a passing touchdown and PAT.
The Bulldogs' first score of the game came early in the second quarter when Jeremy Atkins intercepted a pass and raced in from 22 yards out. Colston Bennett's extra point was good. Jones led 14-7 with 14:53 left in the second.
The Bobcats answered the score on a passing touchdown and PAT to go up 21-7 with 9:48 left in the second.
The Bulldogs scored with 5:45 left in the second when Chase Richardson found Dalyn Jackson from 31 yards out. Bennett's extra point was good, and Jones led 21-14.
The Bobcats scored again before halftime on a rushing touchdown to lead 28-14 after a successful PAT with 3:03 remaining in the quarter.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with 10:10 to play in the third when Richardson found Jackson again, this time from 17 yards out. Bennett's extra point was good, and Jones led 28-21.
The Bobcats increased the lead to 31-21 on a field goal with 7:36 left in the third.
Jones scored with 6:05 left in the third on a rushing touchdown. The extra point was good, and Jones led 38-21.
The Bulldogs' final score came with 9:52 left in the game when Richardson found Tristin Purnell from 17 yards out. Bennett's extra point was good.
Richardson finished the game 26-of-52 for 293 yards and three touchdowns. K.J. Miller led the Bulldogs in rushing with 90 yards on 16 carries. Jekerious Williams led the Bulldogs with four catches for 63 yards while J.J. Harrell had three catches for 48 yards and Jackson had two catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
E.J. Segrest had 15 tackles to lead the Bulldogs including 2.5 tackles for loss. Kebian Gilmore had 10 tackles and one TFL.
