Bulldogs go to 2-0 with a 77-68 win over the Warriors

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs held an 11-point lead at halftime here Saturday and went on to win 77-68 over the East Central Community College Warriors to go to 2-0 on the season.

Holmes travels to Pearl River on Monday in a non-division matchup starting at 7 p.m.

A DeAndre Scott jump shot with 14:54 to play in the first half put the Bulldogs up by eight, 16-8. A Tamarico Wilson free throw kept the lead at eight with 12:24 to play before a Travis Johnson free throw increased it to nine with 11:05 to play. Scott's three-pointer with 9:24 to play increased the lead to 10, and the Bulldogs controlled the remainder of the first half with an 11-point lead.

The Warriors cut the lead to five at 41-36 on a layup by Akeem Toppin and the lead was seven for the Bulldogs with 15:46 to play on a layup by Aquill Baynard. Holmes' Wilson made a layup with 12:58 to play put Holmes back up by nine at 54-45 and then a Demarcus Lewis layup put Holmes up 56-45 shortly after. Lewis made a three thrown with 9:14 to play to increased the lead to 14 at 59-45 and 18 points with 6:24 to play on a Wilson jump shot.

Scott led the Bulldogs with 21 points while Johnson had 17, Wilson 14 and Lewis had 10. Johnson had seven rebounds for the Bulldogs.
