Bulldogs go to 7-6 overall with 84-69 win over Southwest Bears

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs went to 7-6 on the season with a big 84-69 win over the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears here Thursday.

The Bulldogs return to North Division play on Monday night traveling to Clarksdale to play the Coahoma Community College Tigers. Holmes returns home on Thursday night against Itawamba. Thursday's game can be watched live at holmesathletics.ihigh.com.

Holmes held a four-point lead with 13:31 to play in the first half on a bucket from Demarcus Lewis. The lead remained at four with 9:52 left in the first half and increased to 18 at 46-28 as the first half ended on a three-pointer from Cody James.

A Kenitric Gillum bucket with 19:16 gave the Bulldogs a 20-point lead. After the Bears fought back later in the half, Holmes increased the lead back to 20 at 65-45 with 10:42 to play in the game on another two-point bucket by James.

James led the Bulldogs in scoring with 21 points while Lewis had 16.

In a game on Monday night, the Bulldogs fell to Hinds 73-71. Lewis led the Bulldogs with 22 points while Daveon Slaughter had 13. Lewis had nine rebounds and Travis Johnson had eight.
