With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 7-1 on the season and 0-1 in the North Division. Holmes hosts Coahoma Monday at 8 p.m.
The Rangers scored 17 of the game's first 22 points and took total control into the half. Northwest led 46-25 at halftime.
Holmes used a 62 percent shooting percentage in the second half to get back into the game. A 17-7 run ending with a D'Angelo Richardson three-point brought the Bulldogs to within seven at 66-59 with 6:06 to play. Holmes pulled within four and as close as 73-70 with 33 seconds left, but a late free throw from Northwest sealed the game for the Rangers.
Holmes was led by Richardson's 16, one of four Bulldogs in double figures. Cedric Harper had 14 points, Daryl Macon had 11 and Xavier Williams had 10. Harper and Demarkis Weatherall each had seven rebounds for the Bulldogs.
