Flanigan camp has a great turnout
Holmes Community College Head Men's Basketball Coach Jason Flanigan held his annual basketball camp June 28-July 1 in Frank Branch Coliseum and was a great success as youngsters flocked to the Goodman Campus.
The players learned the fundamentals of the game along with specialized instructions in shooting, playing defense, ball-handling skills and rebounding. The player took the skills learned and applied them to competitive areas such as one-on-one games, three-on-three, five-on-five, bump competition, slam dunk, hot shot, and free throw contests.
The following awards were given in each age group: hot shot, free throw, sportsmanship, hustle, rebounding, best defensive, best offensive and most valuable player.
Awards from the SEC group (youngest campers) included: Jamarcus Fleming, hot shot; Denson Edwards, free throw; Alana White, sportsmanship; Keve Washington, hustle; Matthew White, rebounding; best defensive, Brayden Colbert; best offensive, Jamarcus Fleming; and Jon Wiley Jones, MVP.
Awards from the ACC (second youngest campers) included: Terrell Johnson, hot shot; Tanner Vandevere, free throw; Marley Faulkner, sportsmanship; Riley Powell, hustle; Tanner Vandevere, rebounding; Tylan Hutchins, best defensive; Terrell Johnson, best offensive; and Jonathan Brister, MVP.
Awards from the NBA (oldest campers) included: Jared Brister, hot shot; C.J. Ferguson, free throw; Hayes Hester, sportsmanship; Jeremiah Brister, hustle; Bryce Hester, rebounding; Khameran Harvey, best defensive; Devin Jones, best offensive; and C.J. Ferguson, MVP.
Pierce Jones won the best dancer award while the slam dunk champion was John Hudson Word.
