Lady Bulldogs start second half of North play with win over Lady Lions

SCOOBA --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs bounced back after Monday night's loss to Itawamba with a 52-42 win over the East Mississippi Lady Lions here Thursday night.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs went to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in the North Division. The Lady Bulldogs have two home games next week with Northeast coming in on Monday at 6 p.m. and Coahoma on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead early in the game before the Lady Lions tied the game at nine. The lead increased to as much as eight points at 25-17 in the first half on a two-point bucket from Kierra Gilmore. East Mississippi fought back just before half and the Lady Bulldogs held a 25-23 lead at the break.

East Mississippi tied the game at 27 on a basket by Dajah McCarty early in the second half. The teams swapped baskets until the Lady Bulldogs retook the lead at 35-32 on a three-pointer with 14:10 to play in the game. Dierra Gilmore hit a three-pointer with 3:45 to play, and the Lady Bulldog lead grew to nine points. She later completed a three-point play by making a free throw with 1:49 to play to increase the lead to as much as 12.

Kierra Gilmore led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points while Dierra Gilmore had 11. Louise Collins led the Lady Bulldogs with nine rebounds while Kierra Anderson had seven and Amber Clay had six.
